Days 1-2: Journey to Big Sur

We spent our last night in Ocean Beach, enjoying the company of our friends. We rose at 4am to begin the drive. Luckily, the drive from San Diego through LA and Santa Barabara went surprisingly fast, probably due to the lack of sleep, and we soon entered into an unknown world to us. The landscape and traffic became empty, and we drove through endless rolling green hills, among occassional wineries that resembled castles.
Realizing the 101 and 1 highways are different, just in time we jetted across via the 46 over to the 1. Thank goodness for those maps! (thanks Carl!)
We then reunited with the ocean in Cambria. There were elephant seals! Then we started to ascend the Big Sur coastline, and witnessed the most amazing awe inspiring beauty we've ever seen!!! We saw whales, waterfalls, California condors(the largest bird in North America, also endangered), redwoods, and blue ocean for as far as you can see. Now we are camping among redwoods and the Big Sur river. It started to rain in the night and has continued into a light mist this morning. We will probably stay a few more days and hope that it clears up! Today will include a rain hike (Lisa inspired), and going to see a waterfall onto a beach!
Most exciting new creature we've encountered: banana slug! (possible pictures to come)
Stay tuned and send free money if desired.
Much love
